Collimators and Focus Guides

Used in a wide variety of optical systems, these ruggedized modules are designed to collimate or focus light exiting an optical fiber to a desired beam diameter or spot size a specific distance away. Collimators and Focus Guides are used with laser diodes, photodiodes, acoustic-optic modulators and other fiber optic devices where a specific output is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a collimator and focus guide?
A collimator is an optical device that is used to produce a collimated, or nearly parallel, beam of light by reducing divergence. A focus guide helps minimize or reduce the spot size of your beam by pointing the light in an inward direction—usually through the pairing of both a collimator and a focus guide.

Can the collimator and focus guide be used in conjunction with one another?
Yes, our proprietary design allows you to collimate the output beam as well as focus it back down. This is made possible through a dual lens system utilizing a threaded connecting mechanism between each unit.

Are collimators and focus guides adjustable?
Yes, our mid-size and macro collimators can be slightly adjusted via the adjustment set screw at the base of the collimator. The focus guides can be adjusted by rotating the focus guide further in or out of the threaded connecting system between the two units.

What type of fibers can these be used with?
Most single-mode and multimode optical fibers are compatible with our collimators.

Are custom options available?
Currently, we do not offer custom collimators or focus guides. If you would like to explore the possibilities with our technical team, please contact us.
